Bone Grafting - MISSION VIEJO, CA
Rebuilding More than Your Jawbone
Restorative Surgery from the Expert
Your jawbone is an integral part of your oral structures, helping to keep your teeth securely positioned in your mouth. If bone is lost due to gum disease, tooth loss, oral trauma, or other factors, we need to restore this structure so it can reestablish a natural-looking jawline, support your existing teeth, and qualify you for treatments like dental implants. In many cases, when we offer bone grafting in Mission Viejo, CA it secures our patients’ candidacy for these life-changing tooth replacements, allowing them to rebuild a complete smile and restore proper oral health.
As a skilled oral surgeon, Dr. Michael K. Clark is a trained expert in bone grafting and uses innovative techniques such as guided tissue regeneration to ensure a successful surgery and long-lasting outcomes. With our expertise and use of anesthesia, we can help you experience a safe procedure and get you one step closer to a new life with dental implants.
Innovation in Every Procedure
We always strive to use innovative procedures in our office and routinely leverage patient-derived platelet-rich plasma (PRP) in oral surgeries that involve hard and soft tissues. Medical research has demonstrated that using our own blood cells accelerates healing and tissue regeneration in all forms of surgery. Specifically, platelets, plasma, and white blood cells are used for our bone grafting procedures. We collect the plasma proteins in the office in a short procedure which only takes a few minutes.
The use of guided tissue regeneration in surgery ensures that you have the best opportunity to successfully heal from surgery. For patients who have a history of complications arising from hard and soft tissue regenerations, advanced healing techniques are instrumental for surgical success.
Our Bone Grafting Solutions
When you lose teeth or extract teeth and do not replace them with dental implants, the jawbone deteriorates where the tooth socket once was. You may need ridge augmentation treatment to restore adequate bone structure that can safely support dental implants. A ridge augmentation involves lifting the gum from the ridge to expose the defected area of the bone. Then Dr. Clark uses either the patient's own bone, a donor bone, or a bone-like substance to rebuild the defected areas. The ridge augmentation greatly improves the appearance of the mouth and increases the chances for success with dental implants.
Loss of teeth in the upper back portion of the jaw can affect the position of the sinus, which can become too low for proper placement of dental implants. A simple procedure, sinus lift, allows the sinus floor to be repositioned, creating enough space to properly place an implant. When possible, the bone remaining under the sinus floor is gently “pushed up,” thus lifting the floor of the “dropped” sinus. Bone replacement materials are then placed beneath this lifted bone. We use various grafting materials to encourage your bone to grow more quickly into the area, helping to stabilize the dental implant. Sinus augmentation procedures are highly predictable, with studies reporting over 95% success.
Minor or severe bone loss is no problem for us.
